BIO

Nomi Duane was born the fifth daughter in a musical family of seven.  Her early childhood was spent listening to classical music, The Beatles and to four siblings who played guitar (one of whom was a classical guitar prodigy and another who graduated from Berkeley School of Music in Boston).  She herself played the cello for four years but was often found turning it on it’s side and pretending it was a guitar.  She wrote her first song at eight.

Nomi subsequently moved to Austin, Texas, where she was exposed to Punk, Blues, Rock and some Country music.  She was asked to front a locally successful, all female band in the early 80’s but lacked the confidence to follow through.  The passion to be around music continued to burn within her and she spent the next eighteen years paying close attention to the local music scene.

Eventually, she settled in Northern California and started writing songs in many different genres.  A year after she began songwriting anew, it was discovered she had obstructive sleep apnea which had been impeding her breathing.  After five corrective surgeries she found herself with the breath with which to deliver the songs she had been writing.  Eager to share her songs with the world she debuted at the Revolution Cafe in San Francisco, CA to a rapt audience who gave her much encouragement to follow her passion of creating music, despite her raw inexperience.

In 2005 she joined the West Coast Songwriters Association and performed at local coffee houses through out San Francisco where she received further encouragement from an industry expert from Nashville.  Realizing she needed to hone her musical skills even further she soon left the WCSA to spend more time focusing on developing her dream of connecting with people through music and homeschooling her two children. She is currently working on finishing her first CD.
